Super Bowl anyone??

Pretty uneventful day - and, the way the last few months have been, I am ok with that. I had a plan that I was going to run by the party supply place for Super Bowl goodies this morning after the gym which was my big "errand" for the day.

Off to the gym in my sexy car (yes, she is still sexy). I didn't bring clean clothes or shower necessities for after the gym. I figured one stop post-gym didn't warrant a hairy gym shower. Heck, I've gone to the grocery smelling like sweaty man socks so what the heck?

The gym was fine. I am thinking that my new running shoes aren't as supportive as I thought. My shins are starting to hurt when I run which is not good and a very true sign that your shoes aren't ideal. Oh well, that's another story for another time on another errand.

My first stop was at a Party City close to my gym. The only decor they had for Super Bowl was a small table and a 4' area of wall. WHAT??? Arizona is in the Super Bowl and that's all that they have?? Interesting. Next stop, Dollar Store on Ina by Target.

Dollar Store - NOTHING...I mean, at all! So then I head to the end all be all, where I can find everything I need and where I buy everything I don't need - Target. NOTHING!!! I mean, NOTHING!!! I saw a small end cap that had some Super Bowl cups and empty rails where the plates were once hanging. UGGHH!! What??? This is the only the LARGEST sporting event!!! And, Arizona is in it for goodness sake. Come on people!!!

I was getting frustrated. Other than a pack of 3 sponges and a scrubber from the $1 bins and a couple of Glade oils, I made out with nothing. I was getting hungry and itchy from my sweat drying all over me. I could smell me from under the jacket I was wearing and knew that my window of opportunity before I absolutely repulsed people was shutting rapidly. I had to eat though. Working out makes me so hungry. I stopped by Subway where the smell of baked bread and onions usually overwhelms anything my pits could bring in (I'm sure it was a close challenge - but for my own peace of mind, I am hoping the onions won!). After a 6" veggie, Sunchips and tea, I was off to the last stop before smog rolled out of my jacket.

There is a Party City place in a mall down the road from the Target. At this point I had driven well out of my way but didn't really care. I was on a mission and knew that, if I came home empty handed, I would be really frustrated. And, seriously, it is Super Bowl folks!! Don't you stupid stores know where the money is??

There was a little bit more to choose from at this party supply place but not much. I gave up and got a couple of things including plates, bowls, napkins and cups. I don't know...I guess I was expecting more. I mean...well, you know what I'm going to say...it's Super Bowl!!!

After all that, I came home with only a small bag of goodies and sponges. Oh well. I will have to be creative to decorate the rest. I think the most important aspect of the party will be seating around the TV, a small well stocked cooler by every seat and a place to dispose the empty beer bottles. The only time you would have to get up is to go to the bathroom...unless I had small logo's catheters at each seat. Hmm, that's a concept.

When I got home, I finished cleaning and organizing the guest room - it's done. And then I did more laundry and other things. I ended up making banana nut bread with peanut butter crisp topping and a chocolate center. For dinner I made the marinated chicken that I was going to make last night before we headed to our celebratory dinner. It marinated in one peach fruit cup and cut up habanero and red pepper. I ended up dicing up the chicken over brown rice and made a chutney/sauce out of peach cups and peppers. We had steamed green beans and carrots as a side dish. It turned out really well!! Definitely one to have again. I like experimenting sometimes. That dish came to me while I was running the other day. Like I said, I always get hungry when I work out.

Now we are just hanging out. I have bookends with me - Jazz on one side, Jack on the other. I found out today that T will be heading to Europe for two weeks for work. He leaves the day after his birthday. =[ That's a long time!!

I have my doc appointment tomorrow which is a pretty moot point right now. But I guess I will still go for confirmation purposes. Or just to help feed their families with a wasted office visit. Either way, I am sure I will be glad that I went...unless they roll in the arsenal of needles. You know how doctors are. I will be like...NO, AF just left!! I've given enough! Leave me alone!!

Anyway, it is almost time for Top Chef. I have last week's to catch up on and then the new one after that. Whew, a sloth's work is NEVER done!

From the top!

New convertible top - $600
Potential cost for labor to install top - $1000
The look of my new beautiful bonnet - priceless!

Well, it took a total of approximately 12 hours over a three day span, many scratches and bruises on T's hands and a few dozen cuss words but the job is done! My girl has a new bonnet! A BLACK bonnet! She has gone from ghetto-not-so-fabulous to sexy mean machine with style the other cars only wish they had!

Without further adieu, some pics for your viewing pleasure. And, for those of you I may have already told...I was never too nervous about T doing the installation instead of having a professional do it. T is a perfectionist and has a lot of awesome skills. I knew that it would happen, that it would work and that it would look beyond perfect. Take a looksie!

We ended up taking it for a spin to Chicago Pizza which is about 45 minutes from here. Why you might ask? Well, as with anything we do, it wasn't an easy task putting the top on. Besides the instructions leaving out pertinent information that we ended up having to guess about, my battery was dead. Yep, the door sensor was broken the day before so my door ajar light remained on for quite sometime leaving my brand new Walmart battery dead. No big deal, you say, since your switching out your top, you can't drive it anyway. This is true. However, my friends, technology wins over us once again! Throughout the process of changing the top, we had to open and close the top many times. Because this model was made at the turn of the century, everything is automated. Therefore, I needed at least auxillary power to move my top...and the battery was dead.

Therefore, T had to jump start my car each and every time. We ended up leaving the jumper cables attached to my battery for easy access. By the time day 3 of top replacement rolled around, I had no juice to cook. So we decided to give the girl a good jump and take a long drive (which is very easy to do when you live where we do) in order to give it time to revamp.

No problem though. I was so happy to drive my car with the new bonnet and freshly cleaned! I even organized the glove compartment, the center console and the trunk (what a disaster that was). I swear she was driving nicer and I really think that she was smiling (can't you tell in the pics??).

So, a note about my T. He is incredible! He became a bit frustrated on Sunday evening. It is hard to explain but there is a rib that fits under the back window that the fabric has to be fit around. It is LODGED under the FRAME of the car in the back!!!! It took at least an hour or so to get it out. That time probably doubled getting it back in. And then the screws that lock it in place are out of viewing range and T had to blindly find the small holes for the screws. Now, T doesn't get upset easily. As a matter of fact, there are only a handful of times that I have seen him really frustrated or upset...this was one of them. All in all, I don't think there were more than a dozen cuss words spoken the entire time. That's good! And I think the majority of them probably came from me.

Regardless, I have a sexy car and you can all be envious now! Haha! =P

In other news, I am in the process of cleaning and organizing the guest room. It was already ok but I really wanted to get the closet cleaned out. I got rid of a ton of sweaters. Seriously, there isn't a whole lot of need for sweaters out here. And there are only a handful that I ever wear and I wash and repeat as necessary.

I haven't given up on the crap room yet. I figured I would get the guest room where I wanted it and then tackle the crap room. I think the truth is that the crap room scares me. It intimidates me. So much....CRAP!

The pets are doing good! Jazzy is her old self...well, with the addition of some random shaved spots from her jaunt with the hospital. All of her tests came back negative so they are calling it idiopathic vestibular disease...in other words, they have no clue what caused all of that. Umm, thanks! And enjoy your next golf game on us!!! We will buy the drinks and the caviar as well!

Kizzy experimented with a sour patch kid yesterday. You know those candies that are sour at first and then sweet? Kizzy was intrigued and thought he would give it a try. He licked it for a while and then decided it would be a good "dead" mouse for a while so he batted at it. I guess Tatum dropped a couple of gummy bears when she was here (I think T was trying to teach her the classy art of throwing them in the air and catching them in her mouth - she was missing!) because I have found numerous, variable flavored bears in random places. I was fascinated until I saw Kizz with an orange bear in his mouth. As he spit it out and raked it across the floor I figured out what was going on. Mystery solved.

Jack is doing great. He is sporting his Steelers collar ready for the big game. I have noticed he is pacing more at night so I know he is getting his game face on and ready to cheer for the boys! I know he needs to be groomed before the game but he says he doesn't care. He just needs a dog bowl of beer and bones and he will be fine if no one comes to sit with him. He reminded me that he owns the couches and that the stank will help keep his area clear. We'll see.

The gym has been going great! I am really pushing myself hard - harder than I thought I would not working out with my usual partners. And I like going in the mornings. I must say...I don't know if I will switch back at this point. But I will miss Lorraine and will probably still do Saturday morning classes with her. T says he likes it better too. He says he likes hanging out with me into the evening. I used to have to say goodbye around 4 and not return until 8 at night. I think the truth is, he likes getting dinner earlier! ;)

So, my doctor's appointment is Thursday. I am looking forward to talking to my doc about everything that has happened. The lady at the desk told me that they really don't even need to see me. Well, too bad. You're gonna. Just keep your stinkin' needles and blood bags away from me!!

On a TMI note (skip this Dad), AF seems to be on her way out...slowly but surely. I have already packed her bags...they are sitting next to the door. We are changing the locks after she leaves. Good riddens bag lady!

I LOVE Facebook! Forget MySpace forever. Those young pups!! Facebook is awesome! I have found so many old friends! Including about a dozen people from high school! I have also reconnected with LeDonya, my grade school best friend, and her brother Chip. It is absolutely incredible! And they have an instant message feature so that we can talk in real time. I am sold and don't know if I will ever go back to the sunny juvenile halls of MySpace.

Welp, all the top replacin', car cleanin', room organizin', pizza eatin', two beer drinkin' has really gotten me pooped. I think it is time to take a big sit down on the ol' couch and take a look at some crap TV before heading on to bed. Sorry for the delay in the write up. It has been quite an interesting and fun three days!

Until next time...

Welcome, my friend...

My dearest aunt
Welcome back
For once you're welcome
You're right on track.

I know its been
A rocky road with us
But today I'm happy
to deal with your fuss!

Although I am happy
To see you now
This is the only month
You are allowed.

After that, my aunt
your welcome no more
If you try to come by
I will try to slam the door.

But for now
Thanks for stopping by
Looking forward to a short visit
So that we can continue to "try" (hate that term - but it rhymes).

Anyway, here I am in the bathroom doorway supervising Tay's bath while T takes a shower. We had such a nice day yesterday, Tatum and I. Our mini heart cakes were fun. We went to the store together and she picked out the cake mix - Funfetti. She picked out the icing and also spotted Princess sprinkles! I told you I wouldn't be able to leave the store without more sprinkles!!

We came home and started on the cake. I poured the batter in the pan that had six mini heart shapes. Well, me not being a baker by any means, put too much batter in the molds. While we were playing doctor kit in the dining room while the cakes were baking, I noticed through the oven window that our hearts were actually turning into large balls of cakes. Way too much batter in each mold...oops. So, once they were done, we took them out of the mold and tried again...SUCCESS!

Once the cakes were done and on the rack to cool, Tay and I took Jackson and four of her baby dolls on a walk. Other than the multiple stops to adjust the babies in their stroller (they were spilling over...cabbage patch baby took a pretty bad fall), it was a nice walk and Jack helped me out by not pooping in someone's front yard.

When we returned, the cakes were perfectly cooled and ready to have frosting and sprinkles. She made a cake for each person that was going to be at Nona's that night - Nona, Jim, Daddy, Dawna and Tay. She chose the color of the frosting for each person and I wrote their names on each one. I have pics I will add later. We had fun decorating them and she had an even better time eating A LOT of frosting (I mean, really, that's what kids are supposed to do).

It was around 4:30 by the time we were done with our cakes. Tay and I cleaned up and decided to watch a little TV until we went to Nona's. Todd finished work around the same time and headed down to hang out with us. You would have thought a bomb of sleeping gas blew up in our living room. Everyone was sprawled out on couches and foot rests. Todd fell asleep, Tay almost did and I just sat looking at the TV like a zombie. Even Jazzy and Jackson was taking part!

We headed on over to Nona's around 6:15. We ended up having some of Jim's awesome green chili quesadillas for an appetizer and then Papa John's pizza for dinner. I haven't eaten that much grease in a while but it was tasty. We also met their new baby of the family, Yuma - their new dog. She is probably about a year old, some sort of shepard type dog and is a lot of fun.

By the time we left T's Mom's it was around 10 - WAY WAY WAY past Tay's bedtime. She was sound asleep by the time we made it home. T and I did the "tucking in" trying not to wake her up along the way - SUCCESS! We went to bed immediately after and turned on the TV. That didn't last long...we were asleep in no time.

Soooo, as you could probably tell by my earlier poem, my aunt from the south has come for a visit. I thought I saw her coming last night but it was official that she was staying for a visit this morning. It has actually made my day! I am so proud of my body. It is doing so well. For being at an "older maternal age", I am really happy with the way my body is recovering.

It is also good that she has come back because that means that we can move on and try this crazy thing again. But this time I am sure I will be much more reserved about it. I'm probably not going to hang banners and have a parade! Maybe just parents and that's it. Not until the scary 12 weeks is over and then, even then, it may be only a few more people. I'm so scared that something will happen again.

Anyway, we are about to go make rain sticks and hang out a bit more before Tay heads back across town. Tonight I am planning on making T's favorite spaghetti and sauce. I am looking forward to getting the house back in order but I know I will miss Tay when she is gone. As she gets older we have more and more fun together. I am very lucky that I get to be her SMom!

Another Friday by the tub...

As I am sitting here in the doorway of Tatum's bathroom as she gets cleaned up, it makes me think of how fortunate we are that I can stay home to entertain Tay while T works. She and I have big plans today. When she is done with the bath, I am going to take my shower and get ready. She is going to play her video game (it is like a Wii for a 4 year old - pretty cool) while I get ready so that T doesn't get interupted. Then we are off to the grocery to pick up cake mix and icing - she gets to pick out both. And I won't be too surprised if we walk out with more sprinkles (I have enough sprinkles to cover the world's largest cake!!). The plan is to make heart shaped mini cakes to take over to Nona's (Todd's Mom's) tonight. She will help me mix the cake mix, icing the cakes and decorate them.

While the cakes are cooling, she and I are going to take Jackson and her babies (three dolls in a stroller) for a walk around the block. It is a nice, gloomy, heavy cloud day in the desert. Most native Arizonans love this kind of weather. It is a nice break from the sun. The desert sky is so different than any other - even though it is all one sky.

Todd has his window open in his office and the smell of the desert rain is coming in. I quickly became a huge fan of the smell of desert rain. It is such a unique smell that comes from the creosote bush.

Well, the kiddo is wrapping up so I will need to move on for now. I will try to write more later.

The Smell of Desert Rain

It has been a gray, dreary, rainy day today in the valley of the sun! But it was still warm. Dare I say there was a tad bit of humidity in the air? Of course, this is a nice change of pace from the usual beautiful blue skies except for one small, but wet, problem. My car roof leaks. It isn't the new top that "Santa" got me for Christmas (T is planning on putting that on Sunday). It is the old, beat up, ripped version. I don't think a new top will actually solve the leaking problem. I believe it is the rubber around the windows. But, boy, is it bad. I slammed the car door pretty hard to try and get most of the water out of the mysterious resevoirs around the window but that only created another problem. I must have done something to the sensor that turns on and off the "door ajar" dashboard light as well as the interior lights of the car. So now they seem to be permanently on and are sucking the life right out of my brand new Walmart battery. Ahh, to be a ghetto queen.

Luckily, I was planning on showering at the gym today so that I could go and meet my friend Jason (that I met at A6) for lunch. Lucky because I had a towel in my gym bag that I draped over my legs before driving so that I wouldn't get completely soaked by the leak!

I worked out for about an hour and a half - really busted my rear on some cardio and weights, lunges and abs. It was a great work out that left me soaked for other reasons other than a leak (whew, glad I didn't have a leak!). As usual, the showers at the gym were less than desirable which is why I brought my rubber "funk" flip flops that have been my feet's friend in the sailboat shower, the marina shower and now the hair ridden gym shower.

I met Jason at a sheek Mexican bistro called Zivaz that is right up the road from my gym. It was tasty and the conversation interesting as it always is! He is so funny! If any of you are wondering if T has anything to worry about, he doesn't. Jason is gay and is one of my dearest friends. We can talk about anything together. Plus he makes some KILLER salsa that he was so kind to bring with him AND he gave me the secret recipe!!! I am so excited to try it. However, I have a strange feeling it won't be as good as if he made it.

After lunch (it was a 2 hour lunch that felt like 2 minutes), I headed to Walmart to pick up some groceries. I usually do that on Thursdays before Tatum comes over. The important kid things to have: milk, chicken (for tenders), ice cream, pancake fixins (I got blueberries for this weekend). So, with towel in lap, I headed to Walmart.

As usual, that place is a zoo. It never ceases to amaze me how people are...I mean, there were three carts in my way and, the people who's carts were blocking me, were just standing there not offering to move their carts at all. Amazing. Not the highest caliber of people at Walmart...oops, what does that say about me?

I made it home in time to see our neighbors with the continuous barking dogs wandering around in the streets. It was odd! I have never seen them outside of their four walls. I thought maybe the sky was falling or that something was on fire...maybe a meteor was going to come crashing down on our little town of Marana! Why are our freaky neighbors out in the light of day where people could see them? It turns out that their dogs got out of their yard. This is something that I realized, not anything they told me. They walked right past me and didn't say a word. I saw one of three kids (I thought they only had two) carry in the Dachsund but the other apes were looking for the smaller chihuaha/terrier mix looking dog.

Now, the background is that these folks started with the Dachsund. That poor dog sat outside day and night without any human interaction. There was some tore up sheet that they threw out in the yard for his "bed" and a chewed up bowl for his water. It infuriated me everyday to see that poor dog try to find a small patch of sun to lay in during the cool mornings. The problem is that, because he was insanely bored, he BARKED (YAPPED) all the time!!! Allllllll the time!!!! It would drive T and I crazy but I kept reminding T (and myself) that it isn't his fault. He is bored and has no interaction with any human or animal. He doesn't know what to do with himself.

I was about to say something to the dumb-as-rocks, doesn't-deserve-a-pet people until, next thing I know, there is another dog back there. And it yaps. But at least they had each other to play with (and hump with...omg). I was just glad that they had each other to curl up with and play with since it didn't seem anyone in that house was going to do it.

Well, this morning before I left the house, I took the garbage can to the curb. Of course both dogs were going ballistic at me the whole time beneath their gate (which is right next to ours). I started noticing the smaller dog digging at the rocks under their gate but didn't think anything about it. But, now seeing the vampires out front, seems as if little buddy found his way out. Out of hell, I would assume. Pet owners, they are not!! I sure hope he is ok. They didn't make much of an effort to find him. Ever wanted to hang people upside down from their toe nails? That's how I feel right now about them. Even the short bus kids.

Well, I am off to fix a kid friendly meal for Tay. In about an hour it will be a nonstop Tay fest until Saturday at 4. Put on your helmet, it's a wild ride!
