The Housewife's Brood

To be continued...

Tonight I am going to be lame.  But I do want to touch on reality TV and network news as I see it...come Thursday.  Because, tomorrow?  I will be posting my review & giveaway!  And, boy, is this item near and dear to my heart right now.  My little H is teething like crazy...she is up at all hours, making strange faces, rubbing her tongue over her gum and really enjoying the product I will be reviewing tomorrow.  If you have a teething baby or know someone that does (or will), don't miss my review tomorrow.

For tonight I must go to bed early and get as much rest as possible.  I have an unnerving feeling that H will be waking me up throughout the night for some comfort.  But I will be back tomorrow.  Stay tuned!

Fancy Meeting You Monday...

Thank you for stopping by on this, Fancy Meeting You Monday!

About this housewife…I am pretty new at the June Cleaver way of life. I was a stay at home wife and stepmom before becoming a stay at home mom this past December. Before that I worked full time in the corporate environment planning large corporate meetings and events. Do I miss it? Yes, at times. But I am lucky enough that a recent client decided to hire me on a local event where I could work from home and still make a pretty decent income.

In addition to my handsome husband 7 years my senior (meow), my 6 year old step daughter that I have known since she was 2 and my beautiful baby girl turning 7 months this year, we have one dog and two cats. A day doesn’t go by that isn’t a challenge or a new experience! It definitely keeps me on my toes.

I am a Louisville, Kentucky native, moved to Tucson, AZ in 2006 and remain very tight with my parents back home even at the ripe old age of 38. My blog is just a place for my thoughts, some reviews and giveaways and some blunt honesty about being a housewife and a new momma.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you! I will have a GREAT review and giveaway posting THIS Wednesday! It is a perfect product for that poor teething baby! And an awesome fashion statement for momma!

Thanks for stopping by!

For my regulars, I will be back this evening to tell you about the absolutely craptastic night & less craptastic day I've had...but I am still holding it together...so far.

Can you handle the TRUTH??

Let's lighten this blog up a bit, shall we??

Time for...

Momma Truth's!
Photobucket

Not sure where we left off.  But there are so many!!

1. Laundry will never be completely done.  You think this is true before you have a baby?  Multiply by 1000!   And, just a tip...be sure to secure the velcro ends on the bibs before they go into the washer.

2. You will say and think a lot of things before you have a baby...even when you are pregnant.  I will do this, I won't do that...don't be too narrow minded.  You will be VERY surprised what you WILL do and what you WON'T do...you might be surprised that it is completely opposite what you had thought.  And this is OK!

3. Remember, these are my opinions and from my experiences only.  So take it for what it's worth.  But here is what I have figured out on my own.  Babies cannot be spoiled.  They NEED you.  They don't know what the heck is going on in this huge world they have been projected into.  And this doesn't necessarily end at a certain age.  Babies are babies and NEED comforting, love, security.  It's ok to give it to them.  Society today has put a microscope on parenting - you are told by many experts in many magazines/books that you should let babies cry it out to help them sleep or you should let them sit and cry so that they can used to being alone.  I am in the camp that these strategies do nothing but make your baby lonely, insecure and scared.  I can't do it.  For those who do or can, I am sure they have a great argument for their side.  This is my opinion only.  I am 38 years old.  Life is too short.  I am going to enjoy every moment with my beautiful girl.  If she wants to be held by her mommy while she naps, that's fine.  I will be there.  Will I cringe because I want to do chores around the house while she naps.  Sure.  But that will last for all of five minutes until I look at her perfect face and realize that I won't have this time forever.  I should enjoy every second.

4. Just when you think you have a routine, your baby will change it.  I think it is to keep us on our toes.  9 am naps will change to 10.  They may have been an hour, now they are 20 minutes.  They did want to eat every two hours, then every four, now every three.  Bath time was at 8, then at 7:30, now at 7:08 and don't miss it by a second!  Advice here...be FLEXIBLE and take your kiddo's lead.  They know what they need and want.  All you have to do is deliver.  No, it isn't as easy as it sounds.

5. The safety guidelines of putting your baby on their backs so that they don't die of SIDS (extreme but that IS what they say) has put us parents in a predicament.  When I was a baby, I was on my belly when I slept.  That sleeping style gives babies the ability to try out their arms and legs in a tummy position.  When you have to lay them on their backs, "tummy time" is imperative to help your baby get used to being in that position and eventually crawl.  The tough part about babies sleeping on their backs is the Moro Reflex (the startle reflex).  It will wake your baby EVERY time.  Frustrating, right?  Right.  The answer from the experts is to swaddle the baby - wrapping them up like a burrito neck to toe.  It works.  But weaning your baby from this comfortable, secure swaddle is...may I say...a bitch!  The experts recommend you swaddle but then warn you to stop at a certain age due to developmental reasons.  I say to swaddle until your baby is ready to be unswaddled.  You're the mommy (or daddy).  You  know better than these generic "experts".  Wean a little at a time and don't get discouraged.  If you are too worried about the developmental aspects (which I don't really believe), give the Woombie a try.  It has really done wonders for our baby and still allows the arms to move inside the swaddle.  I am weaning now just because I feel it is time (you will know).  I started four nights ago with both arms out but the woombie zipped to her underarms.  First night didn't work out and I ended up putting her arms back in around 1 am.  Since then, other than a few gripes throughout the night, she is adapting quite nicely.

6. Google is your enemy.

7. If you have any concerns, questions or worries, don't rely on complete strangers on a message board.  You can certainly get some amazing advice on message boards (I highly recommend http://www.thebump.com/) but they are regular moms like you and me (unless you are not a mom and just reading this because you are bored).  Get some day to day advice there but, if there is a medical question/concern you have, please call your pediatrician.  It is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry!

8. Of all the classes we took while I was pregnant, I do believe that the Infant CPR class was the most helpful and the one that would be the most important at this time.  Please be sure you take this important class.

9. Even with a video monitor, movement monitor, and audio monitor, you will check on your baby multiple times throughout the night.  You will watch their bellies to see if they are moving up and down and you will put your hand in front of their noses to be sure there is air coming out.  And you will certainly not admit it!

10. You will learn to do everything with one hand and sometimes with the hand that is not dominate.  You will learn to take the quickest showers - including shaving your legs.  It isn't ideal and you will constantly fantasize about a long shower (and sleeping in) someday...whenever that will be.

Do you have truths?  Stop by my Facebook page and leave a wall comment.  I will be back tomorrow but will be doing my big review and giveaway on Wednesday!  Stay tuned!!

Drama - no thanks!

Is it everywhere?  Is it in every family?  Is it just the law of the land?  What is the deal with drama?

We use the word in many ways - a movie that is a "drama", the book that is a "drama", the girl at work who starts "drama", why can't I get away from "drama"?

I do think we sometimes bring it upon ourselves.  But, when it really isn't our doing, how do you find a way to move past it?  To not respond to it?  To not feed into the madness?

Someone close to me has really hurt me...many times.  I am sure this person knows that they have - maybe they are in denial.  Maybe they have played the "I'm such a great person, an all-around hero, the perfect person in my role" so much that they have come to believe that they ARE, in fact, doing the right thing by saying certain things or doing certain things.  When, in fact, they are pushing someone away.  Me.

Many thing have happened throughout my life by this one person and it feels like a continuing saga that just may never end.  I feel a constant struggle to express my feelings and to state my side without any success.  In fact, instead of trying to understand my words, they have been turned against me and used as a sword.  Cutting me in all of the vulnerable places that they are completely and totally aware of.  No lie.  It is hurtful.

In the last couple of days, I came across something that cut me yet again.  At first, I went numb and didn't feel the stab.  Then, I became angry and wanted to instantly retaliate.  Where am I now?  I think I am finally getting to a point in my life that I just have to move on from negative people like that.  I can play nice and put on a smile when I have to but I won't forget.  I don't forget.  There have just been to many bad plays over the years and I just can't forget that.

But I can take the higher road.  I can try to put it out of my mind (impossible of course) and not raise a stink.  I feel other's would be affected by my actions if I retaliated with my feelings.  Although I do wish I could get these feelings out there.  I have to ask myself...what good would it really do?  Do I think this person will ever understand?  Or even try to understand?  The answer is a steadfast NO.  They are only looking out for themselves and they are bitter because of their jealousy.  No one wins in that game.  So why play?

I will probably continue to deal with this mess.  I honestly don't believe it will ever end.  It hurts more and more every time and I take another step back from this person every time.  Maybe my feelings will be heard and taken into account when I step so far back I become invisible.  Maybe not.  Jealousy is a hard emotion to break.  This all makes me very sad.

As I said, I was going to reciprocate but, at the moment, I may just sit this one out.  Those that could be affected are very dear to me and I have to think of that as well.  I just wish the DRAMA would STOP!  Life is too short, my friends!  And there are so many positive things to focus on (thanks to my Aunt Brenda for pointing that out to me).

I know that I have created drama and have hurt people along the way.  To them I say, I am so sorry.  I should have thought about this person who has continued to try and manipulate me and my family while playing "good person" on the outside.  This person has cut me deep and I will never feel the same way about them again.  I just can't.  I guess this is how you feel about me.

The moral to this story...think before you start a bunch of crap.  Is it worth it?  Who is it going to hurt?  What good will it do?  If any?  Let's all take a moment RIGHT NOW and smile at someone.  If you are alone, smile at yourself in the mirror.  Or smile at your furry baby.  Whatever.  Just smile dammit!  Let's start making life a more positive experience.  If you want drama...go to CNN.

Peace & Love

I am a bit blank today on what to talk about.  My MIL came by for a visit this evening so I started my updates a bit late.  And you know how I am around this time of night.  And, just a preview for tomorrow...I am meeting my BFF, Amy Lou, for dinner tomorrow night (T is hanging with H!) so I may be skipping entries tomorrow.

But I saw this poem and thought it was perfect for us mommas (stay at home or not) that get a bit overwhelmed with baby, house, wife, work...this puts some of that in perspective.

I hope my child looks back on today
and remembers a Mom who had time to play
There will be years for cleaning and cooking
But children grow up when we are not looking
Cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
Cause babies grow fast, we learn to our sorrow
So settle down cobwebs, dust go to sleep
I'm cuddling my baby, and babies don't keep

'Nuff said.  Of course...if you know me well enough...you know I still HAVE to have a clean house.  But this is definitely a good perspective and one I will try to see when I am feeling the anxiety of a bowl in the sink or a hair in the tub.

Goodnight!  I will be back on Thursday!  Maybe I will do my exciting REVIEW and GIVEAWAY then!!  You won't know unless you stay tuned!  ;)

::Blowing the dust off::

Hello??  Anyone out there??  I'm sure many of you tuned me out after a huge absence of entries.

Well, I am back, my loyal fans!  I have blown the dust off of the keyboard and wiped the cobwebs off of the monitor so that I can bring you more exciting stories of my *exciting* life!  Ha!  I know you have been going through withdraws.

I tell you this...between a 6 month old, a 6 year old, a house that seems to get bigger and bigger when my chores stack up, dinners, grocery trips, Wells Fargo event, trip home to see my family and now the gym...Father Time needs to hook me up!  I am in desperate need of a few more hours a day.  And maybe some of those sugar bowl energy drinks could help me when the magical 9 pm sleepy hour hits me square in the face.

But I am wiping the sleepies out of my eyes to entertain you with yet another useless entry just so that you don't give up on me.  I'm still here and I am *fierce*!  HA!  Ok, that is definitely the sleepy talking.

Our trip to Louisville was wonderful.  I always LOVE seeing my family and my hometown.  I have said it before (ad nauseum) and I will say it again...it is like a huge hug everytime I go home.  Even though there was slight drama at one point (or two), we looked past it and enjoyed our stay.  H did great on the plane heading there but wasn't so thrilled about it on the way back.  I actually think she was congested and, travelling as much as I did for work for so long, I know how painful it is to be on an airplane when your sinuses are stuffed full of boogs!  No fun!  H agrees!

We took Tay to Churchill Downs for some good ol' Kentucky horse racing.  The girl has a knack (I swear she has some of my blood in her...not sure how that happened but I think it is there) for the races.  She would bet on a horse only after seeing the entire field of mares.  And she won.  $75 for the day, to be exact.  Only a cheater, cheater would bet on the horses that the little rookie was betting on...but I did.  Along with her fantastic bets and a long shot that I chose for name only, I came out $175 ahead.  A good day, no doubt about it.

After looking at pictures of our visit and after seeing myself in some pretty bad angles and light in the guest bathroom at my Mom's as I entered the shower, I hit the ground running (literally) when we returned home.  Gym time!  I am watching my caloric intake, working out at the gym (day 1...again) and selectively enjoying adult bevs on weekends only (this is really hard since T enjoys our nightly bev together - but I must resist).  My motivation is that I will be living in my bathing suit a lot this summer...the Y has an amazing pool that we will probably enjoy most weekends (and maybe during the week), I am starting swim lessons with Ms H tomorrow.  They are twice a week for five weeks...then we can sign up again.  And my good friend just had a pool installed in her backyard that is gorgeous!  We are heading there on Saturday for a BBQ.  I won't be at my goal by then but you get the idea.  You can come follow my progress by clicking on the button below.

H is amazing.  She is doing something new everyday.  She started doing "mamamama" and "babababa".  We thought her "mama"'s were only babbles but we are actually thinking that she is starting to associate it with me now.  She reaches for me (especially when upset) and says "mama."  A girl can dream.

She is sitting up on her own pretty well now.  We have been trying to get her excited about solids but it is slow going.  I can say that I am LOVING making her food, though.  And WOW the savings are incredible!!  One sweet potato yielded 30 oz of puree!  I have these awesome containers and ice cube trays that I am using to freeze the food.  I am loving the process.  I want to stick with making her food because a) it is cheaper (a lot), b) I don't want her to try jarred food and then not want homemade, c) I know what she is eating (I try it and it is yummy), d) I can season it which, according to our pedi, will help her be more open to different tastes as she gets older and e) it is fun and totally rewarding!  Now if she would just have more fun with it!

Well, I am sure there is a ton more I could catch you up on but I should sign off so that I can update my other blogs.  But dont' go far!  Coming soon...an EXCITING review/giveaway of a product no momma should be without!  A perfect teething companion!

Also coming soon...more momma TRUTHS!

Stop and give me some love!  And don't forget to check me on FB and Twitter.
