Birds, bees, veggies and trees

Yeah, yeah...it has been a while since I posted last. It is just super hard to do while Tatum is here and then my dearest friend Amy came over Sunday for a cookout which was such a nice time. We lit the chiminea after dinner and just chatted. It was such a nice weekend.

Yesterday I could have posted to satisfy the craving of my fans but, since I had seen one of my most loyal fans Sunday and I talked to my second most loyal fan last night, I felt I could take an even longer break. Instead I worked on Lauren's baby blanket that I am finally picking up again. It was in hiding during my crazy time but now I am ready to dive back into it.

What is a blog entry without a gym story? Well, today...after missing the gym since last Thursday...I was quite surprised and taken aback when I saw a news camera and reporter enter the doors when I did. Nothing like wearing lycra pants and men's tank tops over a sports bra with your slicked back hair and bare, makeup free face to cause terror when running head to head with a news camera! I guess it was a story about personal training because they mic'd up one of the trainers - the most obnoxious ones - and followed around him and his client. It was kinda funny to see this girl that was training wearing full makeup with beads of sweat pooling her mascara under her eyes. She is a bigger girl (trying to make a difference in her life - do NOT flame me for that comment...I was approaching a size 16 when I started the gym so I can say whatever I want!) who was wearing a very large gray Tshirt and gray sweatpants. The blue eye shadow and red blush was the only color that splashed in that picture.

On to gardening news. So I thought that the birds took off with my cucumber seeds since nothing was happening since I planted them well over a week ago. T had seen some birds pecking in that area which led me to believe my cucumber seeds were their dinners. While we were at Walmart over the weekend, I decided to get another packet of seeds to try again. That's when I noticed the directions on the back of the packet (that I guess wasn't on the back of the packet I had before). I was to build a hill for my cuke seeds - 12" high x 2' wide. Wow, I certainly didn't do that before. I also bought some mesh - which is actually shade cloth - to lie over the seeds so that the birds don't get to them. I may have to take it off tomorrow since my seeds need full sun.

Everything else is growing nicely. In the next day or so, I will need to separate some of my seedling sprouts so that they are the proper distance apart. Actually, I may do that tomorrow when I get home from running around. My tomato plants have definitely grown taller and my peppers seem to be steady. They are definitely growing slower but I think that's because the amount (or lack of) sunlight in that area. I will take some pics tomorrow to post so that you can see the latest...

T and I bought a new couch, side table and lamp yesterday! It is so nice! We are both really excited about it. It will really make the living room look clean and classy. We are in the process of selling our old furniture on Craigs List - we are hoping it will sell at a nice price! We should be receiving our new furniture middle of next week! I will take pics, of course.

I am in the process of putting together my Derby party! I am very excited about it. Especially since I will have more time to devote to the planning process. I am working on the invitations now and should have those out before the end of the week. It has been so rewarding to teach these Arizonians about Derby. I remember when T just looked at me and said...what's Derby? That was when we first met and it about blowed me over. WHAT'S DERBY??? Oh wow...lot's to learn!!! So this will be the 4th annual Derby party and will be a dressed up affair with a Best Dressed contest and Best Hat contest. I am excited to get my outfit together!

Our tree out front has become the hub for all the bees in the neighborhood. It is a Palo Verde tree that is in full bloom (and is absolutely beautiful). I park right under that tree in the drive way and it is strange to hear the buzzing taking place in the fro of that thing! There has to be hundreds and hundreds of bees - and I am not exaggerating! We would be worried but they seem to have no interest in us. They are very happy pollenating!

My hummingbird seems like she has made a full time residence in our Mesquite tree out back. She sits there morning, noon and night. There are others who frequent the feeder but she runs them off as soon as they get their sip. This is definitely HER yard. We were thinking about getting a little bird house for her to nest in. I would love to see baby hummingbirds!!

That's about all that is happening around here! I am super excited that I will be having lunch with a very good friend of mine, Jason, tomorrow. I also need to stop and get more supplies for my invitations and I need to start thinking about Easter stuff for Tay. Other than that, cleaning, cooking and being the June that I am!

Off to make spicy Sloppy Joe's!!

WoW! I thought everyone knew what the Kentucky Derby was...what a small world I live in. It is like Christimas in that you anticipate it all year but with less work and depending on your gambling habits should be alot cheaper!
