Chicago - The Windy City???

With all due respect to a city that I love - Chicago - I must recommend that this title be placed on Tucson, AZ. Over the past few months, including today, we have had VERY windy days that make you wonder if we are in the center of an invisible tornado! Today I even did what I questioned in an earlier blog - I had the top down on my car but the windows up. It didn't start out that way as I was leaving the grocery but, with gusts as much as 50 mph, my hair was hitting my face with the force of a tobacco chewin' cowboy whippin' his horse. I had to resort to closing the windows just so that I wouldn't be bloodied by the time I arrived home.

I think everyone here is tired of the wind. It is very annoying. You can't walk without feeling like you are going to be blown over and, those of us with longer hair, can't see past the last strand in our face to even know where we are going. Then there is the dust. In the northeast, they have smog in the air. In the midwest, after a nice cool night, there may be dew or fog blocking out the sight of town. Here? Well, we have dust! Desert dust. As I was driving home, trying to hold my course, I looked to the left and right to find the mountains. It was as if looking through a semi-opaque filter. So bizarre. Some aspects of the desert life still intrigue me.

Moving on. We received our couch yesterday and couldn't be more pleased. The lamp was on back order and wouldn't be available for another month. We weren't entirely in love with the lamp we selected and only selected one because it was part of the package deal. So, instead of doing my chores, I went with T to the furniture store and looked for another lamp we could get in its place. Nada. We went several other places; Target, Ross, Pier 1, Lowe's. Nothing. We were also looking for pillows but didn't really score in that area either. We were surprised - either our taste is way off from the popular culture or there are just some really poor selections! After 3 hours or so of driving, shopping and ignoring chores, we turned up empty handed.

When we got home, T hopped online and, after some google searchin' magic, found pillows and a lamp that we really like! Here's the lamp:

And now the couch with side table..imagine the lamp on it as well as big 20" x 20" red decorative pillows accenting the couch....

Excuse the stack of mags behind the couch - they have recipes I need to sort. They are put away now...

A close up of the side table where the lamp will be placed. I am going to change out the magazine basket underneath to a darker basket color.

So, that's really the latest in the hit list. From here on will make for a busy end of week/weekend. Tomorrow we have to go to a funeral for T's SMom's Dad and then a meal after. Then we will pick up Tay on the way home. Friday my Mom comes in around 10 AM. From there will be lunch with her and Tay - T will be at a wedding rehearsal and lunch - and then home. Saturday will be more of the same as Fri other than T's wedding rehearsal. Sunday we take Mom back to the shuttle drop off and then head directly to the wedding. Whew. That makes me tired thinking about it.

I'm going to sign off for now. I need to start dinner. Now...talk about wind!

I love that couch..and the table is pretty neat..looks like the glass sits up above the wood surface..contemporary with a down home warmth..pretty good...the lamp looks perfect, too..should match well with Jackson's golden locks..what a handsome boy he is. The wind will make you nuts after a while. It's believed by many that it was responsable for VanGogh killing himself..he had his issues anyway, but the wind of South France was continuous and his paintings often reflected it in the blowing wheat fields...anywho..thats what some professor person said in one of my many classes..i've actually read it in books too..i'm getting way off course here (just filler)...talk to you later..aaats..DAD
