T Bird Flies, Yappy Dog Update and the Attack of the Native Dogs!

T is off again - in flight to Dallas, Texas followed by an Executive Schmooze session tomorrow in Chicago (well, right outside Chicago in a city no one knows). This morning he woke up on, what he called, the wrong side of the bed - however my side was the one that had cat puke at foot. I happened to be in a great mood today so I tried to cheer him up with a hug and a suggestion of riding our bikes before he got ready for his trip. He seemed to be on board with this idea.

As we were heading up the stairs to change into bike riding garb (no, we don't wear the spandex padded shorts and multi-colored tops), T called me down the steps with great excitement in his voice. "You gotta see this!!!" He called out as I was putting on my tank top (always good to try and get some sun while you are riding). I raced down the steps in time to see a UHaul truck at our neighbors house being loaded up by the McCreepies. These are the ones, my friends, that have the yappy Dachsund in the backyard! We both stood there in front of our partially shut blinds playing James Bond glued against the living room wall and squeezing our eyes to get just the right angle.

Now, being the nosey Joneses that we are, we had to speculate as to why they were leaving. Was it because the house sold (it has been up for sale for about 6 months or more). Nope, the sign still says 'for sale'. My theory, after answering the door to repo guys looking for them in the past, is that they haven't/couldn't pay their rent/car payment/bills in general and are looking for a quick escape from the world. When you move, there seems to be a good two to three months where it is hard for others to find you via address. My theory is further grounded in the fact that they are moving in the middle of the week, towards the end of the month and had their kids out of school to help. Quick, instant escape.

All we know is, we will be able to sit in our oasis of a backyard without having to talk over the yaps of Max. I don't know how we will get used to it. We have learned to mouth our conversations so that we don't make a sound to get him riled up. We have also learned how to walk softly over the gravel in the side yard to not wake him in the middle of the day...even though the gate shutting always does. But now it will be peace and quiet again. Right before we were about to buy a anti-barking dog house to face that direction. Maybe their new neighbors will purchase it instead.

Once we were set to ride, we headed to the garage and got the bikes down from their hooks. T wanted to be sure we had our helmets on and were ready to bullet out of the garage before he opened the door. He is so self conscious about neighbors and whatnot. A major Arizona trait that I still don't understand. People out here are of a different mindset than back home.

We headed out on our ride and did about 12 miles. The first several miles were heading into the wing and made for great resistance. And, since I was skipping the gym to cheer T up with this ride, I wanted all the workout and resistance I could get! We rode through several neighborhoods and then T took me on a route I had not taken yet. Part of this route was quite "exciting". When we ran across three dogs that must live in the native american neighborhood that were free of any leash or chain. And they weren't too happy to see us.

You could tell they have terrorized before because they had a method to their quite literal madness! The three ran along side us on the opposite side of the street until the first one, a terrier looking mutt, ran across barking madly...of course heading for the last bike in line which was ME! I wasn't afraid..I am usually not afraid of dogs which I think helps them not be afraid of you and want to hurt you...so I kept pedaling.

Next came the pit bull looking dog. Now, I may have clenched my butt cheeks a bit with him. I swear a couple of beads of sweat found their way to my forehead when I saw his drool covered teeth as he aggressively barreled my way. He sounded much more like he wanted to gnaw me in half than the last mutt. So I found myself pedaling a little faster and trying to think of the old bike rule book I may have read back when I was a kid - what to do in this situation.

About that time, he let up and the third dog that was keeping up with us on the opposite side of the street started staring our way. He was a skinny black dog that didn't seem to really care about this game as much as the other two. I think he only played to be cool in front of the others so that they didn't mangle him. He kinda trotted across the street and may have made some pathetic sound of a bark but he really had no interest in us and was ready to go back to smelling for small rabbits to torment.

It was quite exciting and I couldn't help but to ask T if we would be taking another route back because I wasn't quite up for losing a foot at the ankle for a bike ride. And we did. It was such a nice ride on such a beautiful morning. The temperature couldn't have been better!

After our ride, I made T his favorite breakfast - sausage biscuits - and then kept him company as he packed. Once he headed out, I took my shower and did a few odds and ends around the house. I seem to do a bit less the first day T heads out of town. I always try to prove myself while he is here by busting ass and getting things done. I don't ever want to look "not busy" to him. I am not the Oprah watching, chip eating stay-at-home wife but I do tend to slack the first day he is gone. I am still doing laundry, dusting and other small odds and ends but I am kinda hanging out on the computer a bit more than usual. I did do a lot yesterday that took care of most of my household duties and I have a list for tomorrow including grocery shopping...how's that for justifying my not so motivated attitude today!?!

Tonight Amber is coming over to watch Ghosthunters with me. I'm so excited to see her and get caught up AND I am excited that someone will be watching Ghosthunters with me so I won't get too scared! Yay! And I am sure there will be more crocheting to be done, too. I am almost done with all my squares and about ready to frame them all. Maybe I will take pics of the progress and post them. =]

Tomorrow will be another gym day - cardio, chest, back, abs - followed by grocery. Amber is coming over with her Dad in the afternoon to pick up the black couches. I am so glad that they will still be "in the family" at her place. They really are nice couches and I hope she enjoys them! Then I am going to dive into a project, I think. I am either going to clean and organize the cabinets under the sink OR I may tackle Tay's room. T will be picking up Tay on Friday afternoon when he returns from his trip so that gives me some time to work on her room if I get that motivated.

More to come and maybe some pics for eye candy tomorrow...same bat time, bat channel and bat site!
