So another beer I did have and we decided it was time to get some dinner started. We were going to cut up the remaining broccoli, cauliflower and carrots and put them on the grill. We were being silly and joking around about the time that I tipped the door up to the fridge. And that’s when it happened.
For those unaware, most boats’ refrigerators are a combo freezer/fridge. They are “top loaders” meaning that everything is inside a big box type thing with a “lid” on top. Wait, let me add – a HEAVY lid on top. The lid is on a hinge and does have a little swivel lock for when it is upright which we noticed after it came down on my head earlier in the week.
Ok, back to last night. I was reaching in to get the veggies for dinner when I briefly looked at Todd in the galley after he did something funny. I don’t even remember what it was he did. But, somehow the unlocked heavy lid came barreling down and caught my pinky finger. The pain was excruciating but I didn’t feel it for a quick second. I started with a bit of insane laughter followed quickly with sissy girl crying. I was holding my hurt pinky finger with my other hand and, when Todd ran over to help me, I took away my hand to reveal blood dripping all over.
Once we rinsed off the area – which hurt like a biatch – we noticed that there were two injuries. One on each side (top and bottom) of my pinky. As Todd keeps describing it, it looks like my finger exploded. It really does. It bulges out on each side with bloody pulps on each side. Very nasty looking.
Todd was sweet and wrapped it with gauze. I took two Aleves and, after laying in the V Berth for a bit to regain my composure, started up on dinner. Todd helped me and learned how to cut broccoli and cauliflower. I told him that now that he knows, I may get spoiled!
We actually enjoyed a nice dinner – especially after the Aleve kicked in – and went to bed fairly early. All the drama had made me tired (crying always does that to me). We decided that we were going to watch a South Park movie in bed. It started…and so did the snoring almost immediately. We were both so tired, we were out in no time.
It was a great sleep at the mooring until the tide came in…or went out…whatever. The actual buoy kept banging up against the side of the boat for hours. We just can’t win. But Todd was right. Once the tide went out...or whatever, it did stop. But I was already asleep by then!
Our next moment to wake up was when it started raining…hard! We had the hatched open over our bed and, it just so happened, that I was dreaming about being in a pool being splashed by a kid. That’s when I woke up and noticed that I was getting poured on! Haha! So Todd and I hopped up and closed the hatches and turned on the fans to keep us cool.
Other than that, we had a great sleep. Neither of us got up until 7:30 or so. We decided to get into Timmy and take a look at Butterfly Bay. We also took our snorkeling masks in case we wanted to poke our faces in. But it really wasn’t necessary because, with the water so calm and clear, you could see everything all the way to the bottom. We saw some beautiful blue and black zebra fish, coral and other fish. We poked our underwater camera in to take random pics of the cool underwater life.
When we got back to the boat, we got everything ready to go. As we did, we saw a huge fish swimming around the stern. Todd grabbed a couple of slices of bread and we fed this awesome big fish! He would come to the surface, grab the bread, then hang out waiting for more. I know we shouldn’t feed the marine life but he has obviously done this before and it was just so cool.
And then we were on our way. Heading out for our last cruise and sail – destination Marina. I will admit that I was already trying to distance myself from the sail and the boat. I really couldn’t believe that it was already over and it was kinda sad. So I was ready to just get to the marina, pack, clean and do whatever to move on to our next segment of our trip. I guess I do that when I know it is almost over.
We cruised for a bit to get past some channels and challenging areas. Once we hit our staging area, we popped the sails and went underway. Our sail today, although great, probably wasn’t our best. The winds and current were fighting each other so it made for a bit of frustration. On my part of course. And there was one area where the wind was all over the place…and nowhere…all at the same time. I was really getting frustrated but tried to keep a happy demeanor since this would be our last sail and I knew that it was important to Todd too.
At one point, as if on cue, four dolphins decided to come check us out. Todd spotted them and I almost fell overboard to grab the camera and take video. It was awesome. They swam with us a bit, looked at us with their warm hearted eyes and seemed to have a good time. I think I may have been squealing and speaking in tongue! But I was so excited to see this beauty and it couldn’t have happened at a better time – when I was getting frustrated with the sail.
We sailed until about 3 PM when we decided we should drop sails and motor in. We technically have to be anchored, moored or in the marina by 5 PM and we still had a ways to go. So we dropped sails like pros and started the long motor in. I actually finished that book I was reading and I think I was close to predicting the murder in it.
We saw a huge cruise ship on the way into the marina which is odd in that area. There are so many shallow spots and other challenging objects – we were surprised to see one of those huge Royal Caribbean ships coming into the harbor. Not to mention that we were on an intersecting course so I decided that he wins. We will go low and let him float by. We got pretty close and felt the wake – which was nothing after our harrowing experience.
Once we were back in the marina, we were starving so, after our Sunsail slaves docked our boat and told us not to worry about washing the deck off, we decided to head to our favorite Marina Tavern for beers and fattening, artery clogging food.
We, then, cleaned most of the boat and started the packing. As nasty as we both are, we decided to take showers tomorrow morning before heading to the airport. I must say that I am looking forward to a hotel room with a real shower and a comfy bed. Wow, almost makes me drool.
Our original flight to Sydney tomorrow was supposed to be around 3’ish but, when we arrived here, they had the flight schedules for Jet Star and it had changed to 8:50 AM. It kinda bummed us out a little because we were hoping we could moor or anchor another night out. But the cool thing is that it gets us to Sydney around lunch time versus late dinner. So it just means more time to explore.
So, Sunsail will be taking us to the airport at 7:30 AM tomorrow. We will be getting up at 6 AM to take showers and I am actually going to put on makeup and do my hair like a real girl. I haven’t done that in 10 days! I am looking forward to checking out Sydney and just having more vaca time with my sweetie.
I guess we will feel like we are back in civilization tomorrow afternoon. I guess that’s good and bad…
